Fall? Really?

Ouch, where did September go? Has it really been three weeks since that last post? What a busy month it's been: culinary school starting, house-sitting, wedding-going, Ben Harper show attending, autumnal adjusting, America's Next Top Model watching....precious little sleeping, though, I can tell you that. Ah, sleep.

Well, things are in the air, my friends. I've got many stories and recipes and pictures to share with you. This weekend? Maybe? Pretty please, oh elusive Gods of Free Time?

In the meantime, here's a little preview of what I've been up to these past few weeks:

Citrus Tart
I gotsta practice my pate brisee a little more (super shmancy name for pie crust, don'chya know).

Potato Rosemary Tots
Yes, there was a classier name for this recipe, but they came out looking like...well...classy tots. So there you have it. I felt they deserved a little carnival cone presentation, given their humble appearance.

Crepe Quiche Cups
The filling is a spinach mushroom quiche (with lots of cheese, of course)

And a classic potato-leek soup (a.k.a vichyssoises when served cold), kicked up a notch with some pesto.

Hi, don't want to creep you out getting comments from a "stranger" so I just wanted to introduce myself and say I really enjoy your blog. I just found it today and have whiled away the better part of the last hour reading it.

I was googling "bauble bag" (actually it was so long ago now I don't know how I spelled it) cause I have a knitting class tonight, wherein a bobble? bag is attempted. Wanting a head start on the details I thought I'd see if it was knit up on any blogs etc...nope...but alas there was your bag, which not only was gorgeous but also connected with me on a visceral level my having that same initial laptop bag 1/2 knit in my closet..abandoned I confess.

Anyhoo..here I find this amazing wordsmith person who also knits and reads a ton, as do I, and has reviews which darn, make me want to run out and buy MORE books when I'm in the middle of so many already...sigh..books I'd never even considered or heard of before..(some I have, some I already own, some I'm already reading)...and there is COOKING too? That's it, I have to bookmark your blog.

Who is this person you don't know? Susan...aka Lucy...45, married, world traveler, constantling morphing or planning a new morph of herself, new grandma, knitter, reader, lazy cook but diligent eater with dreams of cooking more (thus really inspired by your efforts in the kitchen) etc..I am from Maryland, have spent tons of time in New England, lived in Scotland 3 years on a whim, married a Kentuckian and now live in Boise Idaho, go figure.
Your reviews are so good I do hope you do this for a living!

I won't likely comment often but if I do I wanted to spare you wondering WHO is that person and how did she find my blog.
Cheers...Susan

Hi, Susan! Oh, goodness, your comment here really put a smile on my face. I'm so happy to connect with such a kindred spirit!

How did your bauble (bobble? I don't know either!) bag go?!

Best,
Emma

I've not been back to your blog since my comment. Busy reading The Memory Keepers daughter, which I had passed by several times until your review of it made me say "enough, must buy this today"...Bauble bag...class was good but find though I can do lace knitting which is said to be hard, cannot for the life of me get my brain round the figure 8 magic loop cast on....I did it ok in class, but when I had to redo it later in the eve....nothing...just chaos...I shall not be defeated...
Keep up the lovely writing, I enjoy it as much as any book I have in my massive collection.
Also...I have always felt I "should" read some Flannery O'Conner but have not...
Cheers, Susan
